Alberta Blackjack Rules

Blackjack has some pretty clean cut and straightforward rules, but the general mainstream game isn't the only version. Like a living, breathing organism, blackjack has some genetic offshoots of its own; each with their own rules, but remaining close enough to the original game to keep the name 'blackjack'. Alberta casinos, along with other businesses, must shut down this week because of an increase in COVID-19 infection rates. The province has seen a significant increase in positive case counts, the catalyst for this new government mandate. New restrictions also include province-wide mask-wearing.

  1. Rules Blackjack is played with one or more standard 52-card decks, with each denomination assigned a point value. The cards 2 through 10 are worth their face value. Kings, queens, and jacks are each worth 10, and aces may be used as either 1 or 11.
  2. Bovada is the number-one US-friendly online Alberta Blackjack Rules casino. Owned and operated by the Alberta Blackjack Rules renowned Bodog brand, Bovada is famous for its fair play certified iGaming titles and robust sportsbook and Alberta Blackjack Rules racebook options.
  3. The rules are the following: Blackjack pays 3:2 DAS allowed Can re-split aces but one card only 6 decks Doubling any card combination allowed No surrender Dealer hits soft 17 On your site I have used your basic strategy calculator and selected the No Peek/European rules and the above rules.

Hi Wizard,
I'm currently playing in Alberta, Canada, where the dealer does not take a hole card. Instead, they take one card, deal the players their cards, and then take their cards at the end of everyone's turn. The rules are the following:
Blackjack pays 3:2
DAS allowed
Can re-split aces but one card only
6 decks
Doubling any card combination allowed
No surrender
Dealer hits soft 17
On your site I have used your basic strategy calculator and selected the No Peek/European rules and the above rules. However, I read that the European rules state that if the dealer gets a blackjack, I lose my original bet and my double or split bet. However, in the casino I play in, you only lose your original bet when doubling or splitting if the dealer gets a blackjack.
Does this change the basic strategy on your site? Which basic strategy should I go with, the no peek/no hole card or the peek in this case on your site?

The critical factor is (suppose) you doubled 11 vs 10 and the dealer makes Blackjack does the house take the original bet or both bets. There are slightly more complicated rules concerning bust hands when splitting, but essentially it's the same question.
(A) If the house takes all the bets then this is essentially European and you should use that strategy (e.g. only Split A's vs 10, else don't split or double vs A or 10).
(B) If the house only takes the original bet when doubling then use the US strategy.
(C) If the house only takes one bet when splitting (assuming DDAS) then use the US strategy.
(D) If the house has some complicated rules when splitting (e.g. Australian rules) then check the exact rules and look it up on the wizard's site (as it's complicated!)
From your post you say 'you only lose your original bet' i.e. (B) and (C) - if this is true then use US strategy.

This site has worldwide audience, so it is possible that many don't know Texas. And for international audiences, Paris and Italy are also in Texas.
Don't you think more people are aware of the racist, sexist, and rapist Trump than the state of Texas, USA?

It's not whether you win or lose; it's whether or not you had a good bet.
